The Beggar's Diary, 30.09.2007. - Today is the day. Many, oh so many words have been used to speculate as to what would happen today, but, ironically, the day starts with a process of healing: an orthopaedist takes a look at Filch’s knee at the fyal*f.

We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when, But I know we'll meet again, some sunny day. Keep smiling through, just like you always do, 'Til the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away. So will you please say hello to the folks that I know, Tell them I won't be long. They'll be happy to know that as you saw me go, I was singing this song.

23.09.2007, The Beggar's Diary, five movements. 1. Yesterday's tune, played by Dave Brubeck, is still humming in his head. Rudolf and Eberhart, two documentary filmmakers, want to interview him and follow him around for an hour or two. Filch doesn't mind it this time. They have two questions for him: “What is your task within the exhibition?”

English synopsis, The Beggar's Diary, 15.09.07. - Charles Filch has reached a point that many a mortal must reach: he knows his end is near, and so he has stopped worrying about the banal, the petty little miseries of the everyday, and has started concentrating on the things that really matter. So today, next to the usual coffee at the fyal, he has ordered a croissant for breakfast.

The Beggar's Diary, 11.09.2007.- Filch heard a story about Andreas, one of the characters in Valérie Jouve’s film. Andreas is the man who collects bottles all around the city so that he can trade them for money. Today Filch saw this man, looking through the garbage in silence.

One of the highlights of the evening: Filch talks about his impossible future and the friction beween what he is and what they expect him to be as a sculpture. Or, in other words, about the differences between The Beggar and a Monolith with Rouded Edges Hovering Some Centimetres Above the Ground.

English synopsis, The Beggar's Diary 06.09.07. – Ever since yesterday, when Filch confessed onstage during The Beggar's Evenings that he suffered from bipolar disorder, that his moods rush from depression to euphoria and back again, his confusion just keeps growing. Yes, he decided to leave today, as he was unable to endure the humiliation of being good old No.

English synopsis, The Beggar's Diary, 02.09.07. - If human lives had titles, his would surely be: "Hopelessly in love?" Just like that, with a question mark. Like the ones always featured on ads for municipal services. For as long as he can remember, every goal he’s ever had in life has turned out a fiasco. Constanze. Gangsta rap. The Beggar's Aria No. 1. English synopsis, The Beggar's Diary, 01.09.07.- Today, in a series of big public events taking place in the city of Muenster, Filch meets the movement for peace (it has deep root in the first Communist movement of the 20s, always very emotive for a Brechtian character). And Filch meets The Church.

The Beggar's Diary, 28.08.2007.- Today is the day Filch intends to make his last act of protest to protect Mark Wallinger’s Thread. A couple of days ago he had found, in his mailbox, a postcard in sign language and with the sentence: "Finger weg vom Faden." His last protest will accordingly be a silent one.

The Beggar's Diary, 27.08.2007.- A employee of the SPM07 comes by the FYAL and sits down at Filch's table, ready to dish out some real gossip: a dildo has been found at Guillaume Bijl's sculpture. "Right." Now, that IS something. He drinks his coffee and they say goodbye. Nobody seems to be waiting for him at the Spiekerhof.

The Beggar's Diary, 26.08.2007.- The president of Germany, Horst Köhler, is coming to see the SP07 on Wednesday. But why wasn’t Filch The Beggar told before? How is he supposed to know how to behave in front of a president? Unless the president has no intention of meeting No. 06? Well, thinks Filch, if the mountain doesn’t come to Moses, Moses must go to the mountain.

English synopsis, The Beggar's Diary, 24.08.07 .- After declaring himself student of Physics and passionately describing his musical career to the staff at the Fyal, Filch walks one more day to his official SPM07 spot, the Spiekerhof. There, he starts walking around in circles, in an attempt at entertaining himself. A lady riding a bicycle asks him if he is Charles Filch.

Samir Kandil Filch The Beggar performs The Beggar's Aria No. 1 at the Metropolis Kino. The record will be available in the streets of Münster from tomorrow on, August 25.

English synopsis, The Beggar's Diary 20.08.07. – "A promise is a promise" says Filch to Fyal’s owner. So that it goes without saying that he’ll give, as a present to that friendly café, the framed manuscript of his rap song. And just before he leaps into fame next Wednesday evening.

English synopsis, The Beggar's Diary, 19.08.07. - Filch is taught some manners today by his audience. Immersed in his own train of thoughts, he was thinking of shunning all contact with his visitors at the Spiekerhof today.

English synopsis, The Beggar's Diary, 15.08.07. - After all the excitement yesterday, and the long night he spent preparing the revolution and meeting the Chilean resistance, Muenster's subculture leader, Charles Filch, is terribly sick. He can hardly walk, his stomach is a mess, and the possibility of having been poisoned by the enemies of the revolution is painfully real.

English synopsis, The Beggar's Diary, 14.08.07. - After an uncanny encounter with the police officer who so unfairly pinned a heavy, 90 Euro fine on him (see http://beta.thebeggarsopera.org/node/86)* , Filch gets himself ready for the great reopening of his Spiekerhof stall, on the occasion of the full reparation of his long-term-lease street lamp (see yesterday's post).

Filch explains to us the truth of his relation with Joseph Beuys (in three languages!).

Filch tells us about the tactile qualities of sculpture.

The Beggar’s Diary, 04.08.07 - Filch walks to the center and feels the burning sun on his skin. He notices that everyone else is walking at his pace, like people who are not going anywhere in particular, but simply enjoying the moment of walking.

English synopsis, The Beggar's Diary 15.07.07. – This was promised to be the hottest day of the year. Observing his observers, Filch establishes the following taxonomy of "The Beggar's spectator":

The Beggar's diary 08.07.2007.- Filch takes a long morning walk and says hello to everyone he meets, like people do in the mountains. As agreed, he has his morning coffee at 11:00 and then sets up shop at the Spiekerhof, where the waiters of a restaurant stare at No. 06, discussing his presence … They seem not to remember him, even though he’s been around for a good three weeks now.

The Beggar's diary 07-07-2007. Scroll down for media (interview with the guardian of the Flower) Today, the number 7 is all around us. Filch heard a that lot of people are getting married today because of the special date: 07.07.2007, or 7-7-7 (as in the New York Times!). A holy number, 7. But Filch is known as 06.

English synopsis 02.07.2007
